  • Set goals. Let your goals be your motivation in improving and even perfecting your language skills.
  • Do not mind what other people think. Don’t hesitate in speaking even though you are still learning the basics, practice makes perfect!
  • Work smart but not too hard. Keep in mind that learning a new language should be enjoyable and it is beneficial in the future. Do not overload or overwork yourself with learning your target language since it may only cause exhaustion and may not promote a meaningful learning process.
  • Learn a little everyday. There have been many researches in various countries and most of the results show that instead of studying for a long period once a week, it is more effective to learn a little everyday. Learning a substantial amount of language vocabulary, rules and more in just a substantial amount of time everyday is a better exercise than overloading information in your head once a week.
  • Be confident. Confidence is the key to improving one’s language skills. Motivate yourself that you can do well with your target language and be confident in learning and using it. If you know that you can do it, you eventually will!

A good attitude will surely help reap good results. Just follow the tips above and be motivated to have a successful language learning experience!

I think the advice above is excellent, especially the bit about being confident, confidence can be improved quickly, it is more about how you view yourself and what support you receive than about the language you already know. Many English learners I have come across know (and can read and write) a lot of high level language, but are afraid to speak and when they try to they find that their minds go blank. Professor Stephen Krashen the famous linguistics academic would say that your ‘output filter’ is too high (which means that your lack of confidence is producing anxiety levels that eventually, physically, stop you producing the words). This can be helped but you need special materials and special support. Our materials were designed to do just that, support you and your teacher through the anxiety to produce a more confident you and enable you to use all of the language you have studied over the years.
