How can I get information on courses available?
Request for a brochure and the school will contact you and give you all of the information you need about the language school in sydney.
When can I start?
On General English and Academic Year courses, you can start any Monday. Our special courses (e.g. Cambridge, Academic English, Business English and IELTS Preparation) have special start dates.
How much does it cost?
All our full time courses cost the same which makes it easy to move from one course to another during your studies with us (if your level is correct). Please contact us and we will tell you the cost.
How many students are there at GV Sydney (Universal English College)?
Between 400m and 450 the whole year round
Where are the students from?
All over the world but mostly from Asia, Europe and South America. You will make a lot of new international friends here.
What age are the students?
The average age of our students in the adult program is about 24. The minimum age for our adult classes is 17 and we believe you are never too old to learn a foreign language as long as you are young at heart.
How many students are there in each class?
The average class size is 14 students in each class at GV Sydney (UEC).
What level are the General English classes?
There are six major levels in the General English program and there are “mini- levels” within these major levels. As we are quite a big school, it is very easy to make sure that students are in a class that is exactly the right level for them.
How do you make sure you put me in the right English class?
On the first day each student is required to sit a short placement test both oral and written to determine the student's English level and to make sure we place the student in the right class level.
What time are the classes?
We open the school at 8.00am everyday so students can use the library and lounge areas
Full time study at GV Sydney is from 8.45 am to 2.15 pm Monday to Friday (22 ½ classroom hours per week)
- 8.45 – 10.15 LESSON 1
- 10.15 – 10.30 Morning break
- 10.30 – 12.00 LESSON 2
- 12.00 – 12.45 Lunch
- 12.45 – 2.15 LESSON 3
All facilities including our large library are open until 5.00pm every day
Do I need a visa to study in Australia?
Yes, you do and the kind of visa you need or can get depends on the course that you want to study and also which country you are form. You can get a lot of information on this at www.immi.gov.au
If I need help, will there be someone I can talk to in my own language?
A few of our staff speak other languages. Come and ask us and we will try to help.
Should I take out insurance?
If you have a student visa, you have to pay us to take out medical insurance for the length of your stay in Australia. This is compulsory under Australian law. If you study with us using another kind of visa, you should take out full travel insurance in your own country before you come here.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, you will get these at the end of your course.
Do I need to buy any books?
You will pay a book/materials fee when you make your payment for your courses and this means we will give you brand new books for your study so each of the levels or classes
When should I arrive?
If you are staying in homestay on arrival in Sydney, please try to arrive in Australia during the weekend before your course starts. This way, we can be sure that the family will be at home to welcome you to their house. On your first day at school please arrive here at around 8.30am.
