Students would be required to arrange hotel accommodations on their own. Residing with a Vancouver family will give you the opportunity to practice your new skills with native English speakers of all ages in an unstructured environment. Nothing will prepare you to speak English quite like using it in an everyday manner. You will take what you learn in the classroom and put it to work in the morning over breakfast, during casual conversations and in leisure activities with your host family. This experience often leads to lasting friendships, and host families enjoy watching your skills improve over the years that you stay in touch!
Moving into somebody’s home can be a bit intimidating. We have taken a number of steps to make this as easy and comfortable as possible for you. We have interviewed all host families carefully to ensure that they understand their commitments to you and to the overall English program. Selected host families are eager to help you adjust to your new environment, and they are willing and prepared to help you make the most of your international learning experience. You will be safe and comfortable during your stay, and your host family will be an important part of your overall learning experience.
With your host family, you will be provided a furnished room, offering some privacy and a place to rest; you will not be asked to share a room with anybody. Your host family also will give you three meals a day. Most important, though, is that you will be involved in a variety of family activities planned by your host family. Not merely a resident, you will become a part of the family for the length of your stay, allowing you to truly experience life in Vancouver and apply your skills in real situations that somebody living in Vancouver would experience.
Learning English while living in Vancouver is a powerful combination. Your time in the classroom will be supported by the many experiences you have exploring Vancouver and getting to know your host family. In addition to speaking English in the classroom, you will be able to see the way native speakers use English. This will reinforce your lessons and enhance your knowledge of the language.
