The City of Miami is known for its diversity and liveliness. Residents take advantage of Miami’s diverse culture, exciting attractions, seductive nightlife, compelling Art Deco architecture, and enjoyable atmosphere and climate. As such, the city has become a unique place to live and work, learn and play.

Miami is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States. According to the 2000 census, Miami has a population of over 360,000, a population of immigrants and children of immigrants. There is no doubt of the outside influence of the Miami area, for food, entertainment and activities are impacted substantially by the new wave.

Miami is also home to a wide variety of sporting and entertainment venues. The city is host to football’s Miami Dolphins, basketball’s Miami Heat, baseball’s Florida Marlins and hockey’s Florida Panthers. For those recreational sport lovers, Miami has more than 40 golf courses, 500 public parks, and miles upon miles of paths and trails for biking, running, and hiking. In addition, enthusiasts of music, theater, and art will never feel deprived. Miami is home to the Miami City Ballet, Florida Philharmonic and New World Symphony Orchestra as well as the Lowe Art Museum and Miami Art Museum.

South Beach captures the essence of Miami’s nightlife rivaling that of New York and Los Angeles. Because of the acclaim, South Beach has become the destination for many in their early 20’s. This area has several notable nightlife destinations and hosts approximately 150 clubs, most of which close at 5 a.m. Many restaurants of various international and domestic cuisines also pepper the area.

Other attractions include the Miami Seaquarium, Museum of Science and Miami MetroZoo. Festivals and fairs are also quite common. Carnaval Miami, a 10-day festival celebrating the many Latin American cultures and the Kwanzaa Festival honoring the African-American community are two of the largest events. Other events include the Coconut Grove Arts Festival, Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition and the Renaissance Festival.

As anyone can see, Miami is pleasing to all. A great city that fulfills any desire, from the daytripper to the nighthawk.
