About Lyon
In a few decades Lyon became a metropolis which combines harmoniously the achievements of the past and the definition of the future. The different phases of the history of Lyon are engraved in the heritage and town planning.
The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO in December 1998 included the historic site of Lyon (Old Lyon Fourvière Peninsula, Pentes de la Croix-Rousse) on the World Heritage List of Humanity.
Every December 8th, the Lyonnaise light up small candles on their windows honoring the Virgin and then descend to walk in the city while thousands of flaming candles and original shows are hosted by the whole neighborhood. These illuminations are a tradition deeply rooted in the life of the city and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.This is how the city looks like:
