Moscow is not only the political and financial centre of Russia but also its cultural capital. The Kremlin and the Red Square are the most famous symbols of the city, and were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. In Moscow you will find art museums like the Tretyakov Gallery or Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts. Moscow is also the heart of Russian performing arts, including ballet and film.
Yet there is another Moscow, away from the Garden Ring and Kremlin. Cosy cafés, narrow alleys, hidden artists' studios and idyllic parks are as much a part of the city's fabric as the huge Stalinist wedding cake buildings, expensive fashion stores and McDonalds.
Arbat is one of the famous Moscow pedistrian streets, abounding in boutiques and cafes. Here painters create their works, souvenirs are sold and street singers perform. The memorial house museum of A.S. Pushkin, Marina Tsvetayeva and M.Y.Lermontov are situated in Arbat street. Of special interest there are the old mansions with balconies decorated with modeling.
There is a vibrant night life in Moscow. The major and one of the most popular nightlife areas is around Tverskaya Street.
