Activities in Costa Rica
The EF Activities Coordinator arranges a regular schedule of local activities, day-trips, and weekend excursions to area attractions. These trips are organized for both short-term International Language School students as well as for Academic Year Abroad students.
Activities are an important part of your course. They not only help you to relax after a day studying but more importantly they provide you with an opportunity to meet and make friends from other classes, other countries and other cultures. They provide the essential complement to the classroom, a chance to talk to new friends in your one common language – English.
Typical Activities and Excursions
Weekly Activities
We have a weekly program of activities on campus (dances, movie nights, coffeehouse nights) at either no cost or minimal cost. The Activities Coordinator will also organize sports games and tournaments, depending on student interest and participation.
Examples of activities
Please note that these are examples and activities may differ during your programme.
Day excursions
Try a new sport or practice one you already know while seeing another side of this outdoor paradise. Snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, quad bike riding, and horse back riding are just a few of the sporty day excursions we can offer. Or, for a little jungle excitement go for a canopy ride and experience the tropical jungle from the tall tree tops along a canopy cable system. This can be done during longer day trips such as the, national park Rincon de la Vieja where you can do canopy rides, climbing, tubing and sporting events such as deep-sea fishing, sailing and diving.
Weekend excursions
Group weekend excursions take you beyond Tamarindo to see beautiful untouched nature and for a little – or maybe even a lot of adventure, some examples include: Arenal Volcano and Monte Verde rain forest. All EF weekend excursions include transportation, accommodations, and admission fees. In addition to our program of excursions, we are more than happy to help individual students or small groups plan their time and activities to make the most of their trips to other parts of Costa Rica or to neighboring countries.
Social and cultural events
The possibilities are endless, but some examples include: parties, barbecues, salsa lessons, work outs at the gym, movie nights, club activities with the staff, international days, and holiday festivals.
